Ha figyelembe vesszük, hogy egy refraktométert akár több tíz éven keresztül is használhatsz, ebből adódóan akár több tízezer mérést is elvégezhetsz vele, így az egy mérésre vetített összeg nevetségesen alacsony. A pH-mérő cserélhető elektródát tartalmaz, amelyet gazdaságosan le lehet cserélni, ha már elöregedett, ezért éveken keresztül működhet. Egy kézi refraktométerrel sokkal egyszerűbben és gyorsabban kivitelezhető a cukormérés a szőlőben, mustban, mint egy üveg fokolóval. Nem kell pepecselned a mérőcilinderek megtöltésével, vagy kivárni az úszó megnyugvását! Mérés után pedig csak egy száraz kendővel kell letörölnöd, és már jöhet is a következő mérés! Jó érzés elővenni a mérőeszközeidet és egy fél óra múlva, már a mérési eredményekkel a kezedben eldönteni a következő szükséges lépés időpontját.
